What to Expect
The Powertrain Architecture and Modeling Team develops a comprehensive vehicle model that is utilized for vehicle architecture design, performance evaluation, and decision making. The team uses physics-based multi-domain dynamic systems modeling, big-data tools and statistics to drive continuous improvement of existing and future products.
As a member of the team, you will be responsible for the development, utilization, and validation of component and system models related to the low-voltage system. You will use the model to guide design teams in trade-off studies, facilitate multi-objective optimization, and communicate performance expectations and requirements through the engineering lifecycle of various products and initiatives.
The Powertrain Architecture and Modeling Team is looking for a determined, eager individual with strong technical knowledge in distributed low voltage systems, communication architectures, and control algorithm development as well as production software development. The Low Voltage System Architecture Engineer will work cross functionally with firmware, integration, and hardware teams to drive both software and hardware efforts that optimize the low voltage system with particular emphasis on improving energy consumption while providing high-value features and a seamless experience to customers.
What You’ll Do
- Identify all sources responsible for power consumption in the low-voltage system
- Advance the capabilities of and intellectual property of Tesla’s in-house powertrain model
- Produce repeatable and dependable results for various stakeholders within the organization
- Technical communication of analysis results and tradeoffs to decision makers
- Analysis of large-scale fleet data and statistics to inform algorithms/features
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent
- Strong background in mixed domain lumped parameter modeling/control of dynamic systems
- Proficiency in Python, C/C++, Scala, SQL with experience in collaborative code development preferred
- Experience with hybrid or electric powertrain component model development and data analysis, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink
- Strong communication skills and preference for working in teams

Expected Compensation
$84,000 – $324,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
