Position Summary:
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), specifically Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PA) will be responsible, under physician supervision, for performing physical examinations and writing prescriptions. Within the physician-nurse practitioner/physician assistant relationship, NP/PA exercises autonomy in medical decision-making, provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, and will be responsible for practicing in multiple clinic sites and hospitals as assigned. This is a hybrid role with both hospital and office responsibilities.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs Hospital Consults and rounds. Conducts physical exams, evaluates medical history, assesses health status, orders, and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treats illnesses. May have the opportunity to act as surgical first assistant to Urological Surgeons.
- Limited Hospital/Office call schedule each month.
- Consults with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of an NP/PA’s scope of work.
- Adjusts patient care plan by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans.
- Administers or orders laboratory, radiological and diagnostic tests that will assist with medical management; explain the necessity, preparation, and nature and anticipates effects of treatments and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
- Monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
- Triages patient calls and evaluates patient problems.
- Counsels & educates patient/family on preventive health care for patient needs.
- Documents patient information and care in medical records and may maintain department statistical database for research purposes.
- Prepares discharge summaries, pre-and postoperative evaluation, coordination, and orders as appropriate.
- Prescribes, recommends and regulates appropriate pharmacologic medicine & treatment.
- Coordination and management of patients receiving Immunotherapy (Provenge).
- Assistance with the management of patients in clinical trials.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies required.
- Certification required as a Physician Assistant granted by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) required.
- Acute care certification is required.
- Current ACLS, BLS, and CPR certification required.
- Licensure as a Nurse Practioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Arizona required.
- Valid DEA drug license and Arizona controlled substance license required.
- Certification in Urological Procedures (i.e., cystoscopy) preferred.
- Urology or surgical experience preferred but not essential.
Travel:
- Must have the ability to travel to offices & hospitals within a geographic region.

- Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
- Knowledge of patient assessment techniques, including taking medical histories, performing physicals, evaluating health status, including state of wellness, and compliance with care recommendations.

Physical Requirements for the Job:
- Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.

- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
