Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a cyber security engineer to join our diverse team, working on the Forward Area Air Defense Command and Control (FAAD C2) portfolio of programs in Redondo Beach, CA. The selected candidate will support hardening of the FAAD C2 system in a primarily unclassified environment but will also maintain the classified laboratory for the program. Duties require attention to detail, internal customer service skills and demonstration of initiative. The candidate must effectively communicate complex cyber solutions and security requirements in an easy-to-understand manner to multiple levels of technical contributors and program leadership. The ideal candidate will excel in creative thinking and problem solving and will look for opportunities to innovate and improve the presentation of work.
The selected candidate will be responsible for interfacing with individuals as well as teams and should demonstrate very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain cooperation and work effectively with others. The candidate must be able to understand management direction to generate deliverables in a time-sensitive environment, and orchestrate people, resources and tasks dealing with advanced subject matter. Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform compliance audits and active evaluations such as vulnerability scans to identify where the system deviates from acceptable configurations, enclave or local policies
- Obtain certification and accreditation of the FAAD C2 software system
- Assist in the implementation of the required government policy (e.g. NISPOM, AR 25-2), participate in and document process activities
- Perform analyses to validate established security requirements
- Develop required DoD RMF documentation and artifacts in accordance with DoD Instruction 8510.01, RMF for DoD IT, and any applicable federal or military RMF Process Guide (RPG)
- Create RMF Body Of Evidence (BOE) documentation: System Security Plan (SSP), Control Family Security Operating Plans (SOPs), Plan of Actions and Milestones (POA&M), etc.
- Create the artifacts required to obtain and maintain the Authority to Operate (ATO) for information systems
- Support the continuous assessment of cyber security control compliance for the program
- Manage classified laboratory, material, and computers; coordinate with local ISSM
- Ability to travel occasionally (10% or less)
The successful candidate should have a foundation in System Engineering with some development life cycle experience. The System Security Engineer interfaces with other engineering disciplines to develop the complete system security solution.
This requisition is open as dual level. We are open to hiring at the level 3 or level 4.
Basic Qualifications:
Level 3:
- High school diploma or GED and 9 years applicable experience. We will also consider Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of applicable experience OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience
- General knowledge of DoD based Systems, including but not limited to: RMF, Cryptography and Systems Engineering design and implementation
- Possess a DOD 8570 certification: CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar
- Familiarity with requirements development and derivation or validation and verification
- Demonstrably good writing skills; ability to contribute to deliverable technical documents and reports
- Active Secret clearance is required – US Citizenship is a prerequisite
Level 4:
- High school diploma or GED and 13 years applicable experience. We will also consider Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of applicable experience OR Master’s degree with 7 years of experience
- General knowledge of DoD based Systems, including but not limited to: RMF, Cryptography and Systems Engineering design and implementation
- Possess a DOD 8570 certification: CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar
- Familiarity with requirements development and derivation or validation and verification
- Demonstrably good writing skills; ability to contribute to deliverable technical documents and reports
- Active Secret clearance is required – US Citizenship is a prerequisite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degrees in Engineering, Software, or Computer Science
- Specific Information Assurance experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience contributing to and/or making technical presentations to the chief engineer
- Moderate proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring.
- Familiar with multiple operating systems to include Linux and Windows
- Experience with writing shell scripts and understanding of general shell scripting practices
Salary Range: $115,200 USD – $172,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $142,800 USD – $214,200 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
